Elizabeth Speakman, Ed.D., R.N., CDE, FNAP, ANEF, FAAN

Dr. Speakman is associate provost for interprofessional education (IPE) at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She was previously co-director of the Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Education and an associate professor in the Jefferson College of Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University. She is a fellow in the Academy of Nursing Education and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation executive nurse fellow.

Dr. Speakman has been a nurse educator for 30 years and serves as a curriculum expert and consultant with over 100 national presentations. Her research area is interprofessional education and collaborative practice and retention and intervention strategies in adult higher education. Her practice settings include critical care, post anesthesia care unit, emergency room and community health nursing. 

In 2014, Dr. Speakman was elected as a distinguished practitioner and fellow in the National Academies of Practice and she received the Louise McManus Medal for distinguished services to Nursing and inducted in the Hall of Fame at Columbia University.

She received a BS in Nursing from Wagner College in 1980, a Master's Degree in 1985 and Doctorate in Education in 2000 both from Columbia University and a Certificate in Healthcare Education from the Harvard-Macy Institute at Harvard University.


This lecture series was named in honor of Marylou Yam, Ph.D., the 14th president of Notre Dame of Maryland University. 

Now leading the only women's college in Maryland, Dr. Yam joined the Notre Dame community in 2014 from Saint Peter's University where she most recently served as provost and vice president for academic affairs. Her significant contributions to nursing and healthcare garnered her induction into the Teachers College, Columbia University Nursing Hall of Fame.
