Garry Prime ’65 will discuss the challenges of the Third World and his experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in the African nation of Malawi as part of the Catholic and Jesuit Identity Lecture Series at Saint Peter’s College on Monday, February 13 at noon in McIntyre Hall.   The lecture is free and open to the general public.

Prime, who is the President and Chief Executive officer of Evercel Inc., served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi in the 1960s. His two and one-half year tour marked the beginning of a 35-year relationship spanning two continents between Prime and the people of Malawi.

In 1997, Prime and his former Peace Corps colleagues started the Malawi Children’s Village.  The organization cares for approximately 3,000 orphans and provides food, clothing, shelter, medical care and education.  Prime and his colleagues recently started another group called Orphan Support Africa, aiming to replicate their success in Malawi in other African nations such as Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
