Saint Peter's College Community Mourns the loss of William G. Davis '57

William G. Davis of Oak Ridge passed into eternal life on Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Wayne, N.J. He was 74.

Family and friends are invited on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. to Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, N.J. 07871. A 10 30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday at Blessed Kateri Tekawitha R.C. Church, Sparta, followed by interment in Sparta Cemetery.

Born in Jersey City to Walter and Gertrude Davis (nee Sloan), Mr. Davis was a graduate of St. Peter's Preparatory School (1953) and St. Peter's College (1957). He served his country in the Reserve of the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1963.

He was a retired vice president of Willis Corroon, New York, and director of claims and safety for RJR Nabisco. A former corporate claims manager for W.R. Grace & Co., Colt Industries Inc. and Ingersoll Rand Co., Mr. Davis also worked for the St. Paul Insurance Co. and, after retirement, for the New Jersey Guaranty Association.

He was a former member of the New York Road Runners Club, the High Point Harmonizers, the West Milford Township First Aid Squad, The National Council of Self-Insurers, and past president of the New Jersey Self- Insurers Association.

Mr. Davis was a communicant and an Eucharistic minister at Blessed Kateri Tekawitha R.C. Church; a trustee of the Pope John High School Educational Foundation Endowment, and volunteer for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council, and the Sparta Seniors.

Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Grace Davis (nee Ruckersfeldt); a daughter, Jennifer; a grandson, Jacob Borchers; a brother, Walter Davis and his wife, Ann, of Allenwood, N.J.; sisters, Gertrude McNeeley of New York City, and Patricia Farrell and her husband, Joseph, of Union City, N.J., and his twin sister, Rosemary Cavaliere and her husband, Joseph, of Cherry Hill, N.J., and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his son, William A. Davis, in 2001.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Bill's memory to St. Peter's Preparatory School, 144 Grand St., Jersey City, N.J. 07302, or Loyola Retreat House, 161 James St., Morristown, N.J. 07960.
