About the Speaker
Philip A. Mongelluzzo, Jr., M.D. '94, is a board certified internist with the American Board of Internal Medicine and was the proud owner of Dr. Philip A. Mongelluzzo, Jr. LLC located at 2247 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT for 17+ years until September 30, 2019. Dr. Mongelluzzo has recently started Care Beyond Medicine, PLLC with a launch date of June 1, 2021. He is affectionately referred to as “Dr. Phil” by his staff and patients and counts his relationship with God and his family as his two most important priorities. He married his college sweetheart, “Pinky," and they have three amazing boys, Philip, Andy and Giuseppe.
Dr. Phil attended Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey and then attended medical school at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Both schools are rich with the Jesuit tradition, something he holds very near to his heart.
Dr. Phil founded his initial practice in May 2002 and chose this location strategically on the east end of Waterbury where he grew up. Dr. Phil’s passion for medicine can be seen in his mission that every patient has a story unique to them and deserves access to healthcare. Dr. Phil stresses the importance of “lifestyle” to his patients working with them to achieve the healthiest lifestyle possible. He does this by marrying eastern and western medicine. He has published a book, Achieving Health and Happiness with 30 Daily Doables, as a tool to help patients improve their mindset and their health.
Dr. Phil has been practicing medicine long enough to hear his mentors talk about the “good old days." He, himself, has seen a dramatic shift in medicine as we all have. At times, Dr. Phil has begun to use the same words his mentors used and he realizes that the truest joy for himself lies in the patient visits. Dr. Phil feels incredibly humbled by the privilege of practicing medicine and the honor of being able to integrate himself into the patient’s life as their doctor. It is extremely rewarding and a calling that he still feels compelled at the highest level to answer daily.
